The Cumberland shortlisted for top business awards
The Cumberland is in the running for two honours at this year’s prestigious in-Cumbria Business Awards.
The building society has been nominated in the Business of the Year category while Des Moore, Chief Executive Officer at The Cumberland, is shortlisted for Business Leader of the Year.
It highlights the focus the building society has had on the three pillars of its business - people, planet and community. Success has been achieved as it celebrates its 175th anniversary this year. The Cumberland has become an integral part of the social fabric in its heartland of Cumbria, Lancashire, Northumberland and Dumfries and Galloway.
Mr Moore, who will step aside from his role in summer 2026, after eight successful years with the organisation has been instrumental in giving the building society a new sense of direction and purpose. He set out to simplify the structure, reduce risk, and lay the groundwork for its future sustainability. Under his leadership, The Cumberland’s balance sheet has grown by 32 per cent since 2018.
Des Moore said: "I'm delighted and honoured that The Cumberland have been recognised in the shortlist for this year's in-Cumbria Business Awards.
"The awards are held in high esteem around the county and that is reflected in the breadth and stature of the nominees from all areas in business in Cumbria.”
The winners will be announced at an awards event at the Halston, Carlisle, on Thursday, November 13, hosted by comedian and writer Jo Caulfield.
