Available balance

Changes to how your account’s available balance is displayed

From the end of June, the way your account’s available balance is displayed on Internet Banking, on the Mobile Banking app and at ATMs will change. We’ve also made similar changes to the statements, transaction prints and balance alerts we send you.

At the moment, your available balance includes your arranged overdraft limit (if you have one). From the end of June, your available balance will only show the money you actually have in your account. It won’t include your Arranged Overdraft if you have one.

You can still use any available arranged overdraft if you need to. We’ve simply made the changes to make it easier for you to see what money is yours and what money you’re borrowing – so you can avoid unnecessary interest charges.

Just as today, once these changes have been made you’ll sometimes see a difference between the balance and the transactions showing on your account and your available balance. This happens when you’ve made card payments that have been authorised but these haven’t yet reached your account. The reason for the temporary difference is that these are deducted from your available balance at the time they are authorised.

See below for what your account balance will now look like. These examples assume you have a £500 arranged overdraft facility. If you’d like any further information, please call 01228 403 141 and we’ll be happy to help.
