Cumberland’s Barrow branch set for new look

The Cumberland's Barrow branch is set to temporarily close next month for refurbishment.

The branch on Dalton Road will shut after it’s last day of service on Friday 6 February until work is complete, with the cash machine also out of use during the period.

While it is closed, The Cumberland will be operating a banking hub at The Bridge, Portland Walk, from 10am to 2pm every Wednesday starting on 11 February for all non-cash enquiries.

For any cash-related matters, the nearest branch is Ulverston which will be temporarily extending its opening hours from its current three days a week to six days, including Saturday, in line with what the Barrow branch offers for the duration of the closure.

The refurbishment is the latest in The Cumberland's ongoing series of upgrades to its branches. The most recent saw the branch in Annan reopen in December to an enthusiastic welcome from customers.

Rebecca Gibson, cluster manager for Barrow & Ulverston, said the refurbishment represents an investment in the town as well as The Cumberland's customers.

"The reason we are investing in the branch is to support the community which we are really keen on doing." she said.

"There is a lot of investment happening across Barrow at the minute through government grants and the Barrow Rising initiative, so it's an exciting time and it feels nice to be doing something ourselves alongside that and playing our part in the improvement of the town centre.

"We are proactive about it and contact our business customers and our vulnerable customers beforehand to make sure they are aware and to discuss their options."

As to what people can expect from the new-look branch, Rebecca said: "It's going to be a nice modern, welcoming space.

"We'll have a fresh new branch but we'll still have the same familiar faces giving customers the same excellent service that they always get, which is something we really pride ourselves on."
