Gavin Lowes

Mortgage and protection advisor Gavin Lowes, who is based in Carlisle’s Fisher Street, loves finding ways to help first-time buyers.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

I particularly enjoy working with first-time buyers who need a bit of guidance through the process. It’s so rewarding to see how happy they are when they have the thumbs up to go ahead and buy their first home. I also thrive on the cases where nothing is straightforward, the satisfaction when our underwriters say yes is immeasurable.

What’s changed the most in your job over the years? What has changed in your industry over the years?

Covid changed so much in a short space of time. The technology had to move very quickly to keep up, with Zoom, and for document collection, electronically signing forms and so on.

How would you describe the local housing needs in Carlisle?

There’s a lot of demand for new builds, particularly the affordable housing properties, which unlike a lot of lenders we support. There needs to be more though as many first time buyers find it hard to find a reasonably priced property.
