What do I need to bring?

Unless you have an account with us already, we will need you to provide proof of your identity and evidence of your address. Please bring one original document of each. Acceptable documents include:

* Current UK photocard driving licence
* Firearms certificate or shotgun licence
* A blue disabled drivers pass
* An EU photocard driving licence

*Recent utility bill dated within the last six months (mobile phone bills cannot be accepted though)
* A council tax bill valid for the current year
* Bank, building society or credit union statement dated within the last six months

If you do not have any of the above, please contact us before you visit for details of alternative documentation.

We may also verify your identity and address by making searches about you at credit reference agencies who supply us information, including information from the Electoral Roll.

The following additional documents are required where an account is being opened on behalf of the following:

  • Clubs and Societies (also a charity except where this is a limited company)
    Copy of club or society rules if available, plus copy resolution to authorise the opening of the account and appointment of signatories
  • Incorporated Bodies (organisations registered under the Companies Act, by Royal Charter or as a Friendly Society)
    Certificate of Incorporation plus a copy of the resolution to authorise the opening of the account and appointment of signatories

If the Club, Society or Incorporated Body is a charity, a copy of the Charity Commission letter showing the registered charity number should be required.

Can I open an account online?

Yes, new or existing Cumberland Plus and Freedom Apprentice current account holders can open an eSavings account online.

  • What happens in the branch appointment?

    In the branch appointment, we will quickly take down some essential details, and open your new savings account. We can give you advice on the best way to manage your money if you need it.

  • What is your operating area?

    Our savings accounts are available in our core operating area, which is:

    • Cumbria (all CA and LA postcodes),
    • South-West Scotland (all DG postcodes and TD9),
    • West Northumberland (NE45-49)
    • North Lancashire (all PR, FY, LA AND BB1-3 and BB5-7).
  • Is it easy to switch from another provider?

    Yes, you can switch your savings account to us from another provider, and our branch teams will be able to advise you on this.
