Continuing our support of Cumbria School Games

Published on 13 March 2019

For many schools across the region a highlight in their calendar is the Cumbria School Games, a calendar of events held annually that brings together hundreds of children in friendly but competitive sporting events with a spectacular grand finale in Summer embracing the spirit of the Olympics.

We've a long history of supporting these games, and we're excited to be continuing our headline sponsorship for this year’s events.

Becky Towns, our community co‐ordinator, said: “Every year we support lots of activities that provide opportunities for children that will benefit their physical, mental and social wellbeing. We’re proud to be supporting the games, and delighted to be able to work with the team from Active Cumbria again. Their commitment to developing services which address inactivity in a positive and engaging way is inspiring and, importantly, delivers great improvements to health and wellbeing for people within our local communities.”

She continued “The event encourages a large number of school children to participate in a wide range of sports, with a real emphasis on the ‘taking part’. The finals in July are a particular highlight, and it’s fantastic to spend time with the children taking part and seeing first hand the positive difference the event makes to youngsters across the County.”

Richard Johnston, Chair of the Cumbria School Games Local Organising Committee said: “I am delighted that The Cumberland has joined us as our headline partner for the Cumbria School Games again in 2019. Their commitment to the event and to increasing opportunities for young people in Cumbria to be physically active is fantastic, and we really appreciate their on‐going support.”
