FAQs

  • Who should I contact?

For all estate agency queries, you should contact Hunters directly.

For all Mortgage, Savings, and Current Account enquiries, please contact The Cumberland.

  • Has the estate agency retained a local presence?

Yes. Hunters is committed to serving our region, with a central sales hub, locally situated valuers and accompanied viewers across the region.

The estate agency continues to have a close relationship with The Cumberland, the region’s leading provider of mortgages and savings. The Cumberland is also providing support to the agency during an agreed post-transfer transitional period.

  • Why has The Cumberland taken this decision?

Last year The Cumberland conducted a significant strategic review of its business.

This review was undertaken to ensure our business remains sustainable and successful in a rapidly changing financial services market, and has seen us begin a multi-year programme of significant investment in our senior leadership team, our people, our capabilities and future customer strategy.

As part of this strategy, The Cumberland Board endorsed the transfer of Cumberland Estate Agents by means of a management buyout (MBO), to a new company, Hunters , owned by Graeme Macleod, formerly Managing Director of Cumberland Estate Agents Limited.

For the Cumberland, this development is part of a new strategy focusing investment on developing its core mortgages and savings business in order to meet the evolving demands of customers, particularly for digital services.

  • Will my property be displayed in the branch window anymore?

Hunters will retain a presence in the window displays of Cumberland branches for the next six months. However, the reality is that estate agency work now takes place online and in our customer’s homes and we will be putting more investment in these activities than ever before.

Cumberland Estate Agents established its central sales hub over four years ago where we have over 20 professional sales staff dealing with tens of thousands of telephone calls and web enquiries each month. This has helped Cumberland Estate Agents establish itself as the largest estate agency business in our operational area and under Hunters we will develop this further.

  • What can you tell us about Hunters?

Hunters is a franchised estate agency group based in the UK, trading under the Hunters brand since it started in 1992.

Its network consists of over 200 branches nationwide, mainly franchised, owned and operated by their local management teams. The Hunters brand has become widely known and has a strong reputation within the estate agency market.

Hunters has been recognised three times in the Sunday Times Best Small Companies to Work For survey, won the best agent in the Home Sale Network twice and has successfully secured Investors in People qualification. They have a strong reputation for good customer service and in 2015 and 2016 they achieved a customer satisfaction rating of 96%.

You can learn more about Hunters on their website here.

  • Will I still be able to use your branches for estate agency business / activities?

You now need to deal directly with the Hunters team, rather than your local branch. Hunters will retain a Carlisle-based hub and teams throughout Cumbria, South West Scotland, and North Lancashire, and the teams in the branches will be able to book a market appraisal online.

  • I took my mortgage out through the estate agency, will the changes affect me?

No, you mortgage remains exactly the same and is not impacted.
