Cumberland opens in Lancaster

Cumberland Building Society is delighted to announce it will be opening a prestigious new branch on Cheapside in Lancaster city centre in February.

The Cumberland is the UK's 11th largest building society and one of the North West's largest financial organisations with assets of more than £1.5 billion. In addition to the traditional building society services of mortgages, savings and insurance; the Cumberland provides a real alternative to the high street banks by offering personal current accounts with internet and mobile banking, a financial planning service and business banking services. The new branch will also include an office of the Cumberland's own estate agency and a free-to-use ATM which will be part of the LINK national ATM network.

Opening a new branch is in direct contrast to the many reported bank branch closures and reinforces the Cumberland's commitment to providing customers with a personal service in their own communities. The new Lancaster branch will see the total number of Cumberland Building Society branches rise to 34.

John Leveson, deputy chief executive at the Cumberland, said, "We are very excited about this significant investment in Lancaster which demonstrates our commitment to retaining and developing our branch network. We are proud to be opening a new office at a time when many banks are closing theirs. We know that when dealing with important financial decisions many customers want to be able to speak to us, face to face. However, to complement the face to face branch service, we also offer a full current account service with mobile and internet banking, and a telephone service centre based in Carlisle which is open 7 days a week; 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm on Saturdays and 10am-4pm on Sundays."

As part of the opening celebrations, the first 50 customers to switch to a Cumberland Plus current account at the Lancaster branch will receive £50 credited to their account once the transfer is complete. The Cumberland Plus current account offers a Visa Debit card, internet and mobile banking, an overdraft (subject to eligibility) free foreign currency transactions1, and a free transfer service to help you switch your existing bank account to the Cumberland.

The new branch is located at 26-28 Cheapside, Lancaster, opposite Thomas Cook, and will open on Monday 18 February.
