Cumberland Building Society and Annandale and Eskdale Leisure Trust Sports Academy 2005...
- the Academy provided multi-sport coaching and competitions for more than 1,000 children in Annandale and Eskdale
- the scheme was the winner of the Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils’ National Sports Development Initiative of the Year
- in addition, the scheme received a commendation at the Scottish Sport Sponsorship Award Ceremony 2006 for the category of ‘Best Sponsorship of Young People’
Ace Dance Festival...
- a combination of specialist teaching and coaching sessions in primary and secondary schools throughout Cumbria
- benefiting over 2,000 children of all abilities, culminating in a series of public performances
Smartrisk
- an award winning injury prevention roadshow, aimed at encouraging secondary school children to think about the risks they take and choices they can make to prevent serious injury
- this is the second year the Society has brought the event to Cumbria and approximately 5,000 children have now benefited around our operating area
Workington Town RLFC ‘Try Hard Secondary Schools Development Programme’...
- a secondary schools’ awareness, coaching and social inclusion scheme including important healthy lifestyle, drug awareness, cultural and anti-racism messages, benefiting approximately 3,000 students aged 11 to 16 years
- our sponsorship of this initiative helped Workington Town Rugby League Football Club win the ‘Community Club of the Year Award’ in their league
Cumberland Building Society Cumbria Schools Maths Conference...
...an event organised by Cockermouth School which benefited approximately 100 sixth form students, from over 30 secondary schools in North and West Cumbria, who are thinking of pursuing careers involving maths
Mary Wakefield Westmorland Music Festival...
...a combination of music workshops, performances and shows involving approximately 2,500 children in Kendal and the South Lakes area

- Annan Riding of the Marches
- Carlisle Green Room Club
- BAE Systems Bowling Section

...we also supported the work of Cumbria Deaf Association in Cumbria and Dumfriesshire and Deafway in Preston from the 2005 Annual General Meeting ‘Pledge for Votes’. Members’ votes resulted in donations to these organisations totalling £10,000
Our Staff... ...were directly involved in a number of fund raising initiatives during the year, including the Cumbrian Run, with 19 staff raising over £800 for Cancer Research UK and the Race for Life, with 14 staff raising a further £1,000 |
